March 4, 2008

Greetings from Wisconsin!

It’s still pretty cold outside, but we are enjoying a temporary reprieve from the snow. In fact, the sun is shining and the temperature should hit a "balmy" 30 degrees this afternoon!

Racine North had a productive rehearsal over the past weekend. We worked on "All the Way" with the brass, and also started to work on "The Way You Look Tonight"- The percussion section worked on a new street cadence, and the guard continued to learn the opener. On Sunday, Paul Collins from The Brass Shop came in an went over all of the horns so that they would be in tip-top shape for camp this weekend.

The equipment trailer has officially been totaled out. We are looking at several replacements and hope to have something for the April camp. In the mean time, we are grateful to Bruce Chaffee, for allowing the A corps to use the Junior Corps’ trailer for this month’s trip to Denton.

We’re pleased to announce that Jeff Banko will be back with us this summer, on the brass staff, (He will be assisting Eric)- Jeff is a middle and high school band director in Las Vegas, and was with the corps for several seasons before taking last summer off.

Get Well Wishes go to our percussion caption head, John Donovan, who spent last week in the hospital battling a respiratory infection.

I am anxious to see everyone at camp this weekend. I understand that we will have many new faces as well. PLEASE remember to bring all of your paperwork to camp. Brass players are reminded again to bring gloves for horn rehearsal. I will have extra pairs for purchase if you need them. BY THE WAY... DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME STARTS THIS WEEKEND... THIS MEANS WE WILL HAVE AN EXTRA HOUR OF PRACTICE TIME!!! :)

Congratulations to Clint Cox, who recently received his Eagle Scout award in a special ceremony on February 23.

Remember, we will be having a Parent’s Information meeting on Friday evening at camp. Please encourage your parents to attend this session.

I will try to post any last minute updates on Friday morning.

If you are coming to camp this weekend, travel safely. If you are viewing this from Wisconsin, check your mailboxes this weekend for information on the APRIL camp, which will be held in Denton, Texas. (Yes, that’s right... ROAD TRIP!!!)

That’s all for now.

Andrea
